Thousand Cranes Reflection

Or at least it seems like there are a thousand of them right now. From Pioneer Square and the I-district to downtown to Belltown , Georgetown and West Seattle, Ballard to Northgate to Wallingford and the U-district, and Capitol Hill, cranes are so common you can even glimpse them in rain puddles! Seattle is growing up up up up up up fast. This reflection of a Paul Allen "Vulcan" project crane was captured in the Cascade neighborhood.

Crossing

Coming Ta Getcha!

No, it's not Nessy. But it's not far from the Locks. You may be familiar with the metal sea monster sculpture that's part of the Shilshole Marina jetty, but did you know as long ago as 1906 Ballard was graced by a sea serpent that got caught on film? There is a picture postcard of it at the very bottom of the page at this link. This whimsical creature slithers out of the ship canal onto a boatyard fence near the public access dock at NW 24th Street. Theme Day: What Bugs Me Most About My City

What bugs me most in Seattle? Steel Plates in the Road: Many parts of Seattle seem to be under complete construction. A crane almost hit my car with a load on a pallet the other day. . .no flag person to be seen and traffic going full bore while the crane operator dangled a hook at curbside between the sidewalk and the street, lifted a pallet of bags of concrete, which swung toward me and dangled right overhead. If it's not a building going up, it's the street torn up and huge steel plates going on for blocks, some not settled completely. . .very noisy and jarring, and impossible to ride my bike on.
